I am excited to announce that some very good friends of mine are now working in one of my favorite fly fishing destinations, Belize. Scott Thompson and Anthony Mazza are ramping up the fly fishing program at Blue Horizon – Fly Fishing Belize. Located off the coast of Hopkins Belize they refer to this area as Permit Alley. The deep cuts that are surrounded by reefs and picturesque flats make this a Permit Fisherman’s paradise. This area is home to the Legendary Permit Guide Lincoln Westby. With over 30 years of experience combined with a passion for the “Holy Grail” of Salt Water Fish, he is responsible for over 2000 permit landed. You can see why they call him the Permit Master.
Blue Horizon offers serval different types of vacation packages that are sure to appeal to fishermen and non-fishermen alike. If you are looking for a place to bring the family to relax while you pursue tailing permit then this is the place for you. The accommodations are exquisite and offer everything that a resort has with out being at a resort. Getting there from Denver is quicker than one might think. A straight shot from Denver to Houston then a flight to Belize City. From there you take a commuter flight to Placencia where a transfer boat takes you to the lodge(s). If you leave at 6am you can be fly fishing to tailing Bonefish in front of the lodge during happy hour.
Miles of remote undisturbed flats surround the lodges of Blue Horizon and offer some of the best salt water fly fishing in the World. Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish and Permit all inhabit these waters giving anglers and excellent opportunity at a Grand Slam or even a Super Slam. While most of us want to be in a tropical paradise during the colder months of the year, some of the best salt water fly fishing is happening right now and will carry on through May, June and July. This is an excellent opportunity to sneak out of Colorado during run off and try your luck at a super slam with Capt. Lincoln Westby. I wish the best of luck to Scott and Anthony as they fulfill their life long passion of fly fishing.
