So sad to see this happen to the Animas River. If you haven’t seen this all over your Facebook feed than please read about it in the Denver Post and see what happens when an abandon mine spills wastewater into an ecosystem. According to reports the EPA triggered the million gallon wastewater spill while using heavy machinery to investigate pollutants at Gold King Mine, near Silverton, CO. The wastewater that poured into the river contained heavy metals such as Iron and Copper turning the river Orange. Where does it go from here? we will have to wait and see. The Animas River is 126 miles long flowing into the San Juan River then eventually into the Colorado River. Hopefully the life of the river will make a healthy recovery but the current outlook is certainly grim.
