Front Range Fly Fishing Gear Review: G Loomis NRX LP Fly Rods

Well, it has been awful rainy lately so we decided to stop into the local fly shop and check out what’s new. There is a lot of cool new gear out for 2015 but the NRX LP Fly Rods or “Light Presentation Fly Rods” are truly the ticket for fishing our sometimes tough and technical Front Range waters like the South Platte, Boulder Creek, Bear Creek and South Boulder Creek.

As G-Loomis says, “When conditions call for long, delicate casts using extremely light leaders to help you fool spooky fish, the NRX LP rods are the answer. They are smooth casting, soft tapers for managing long, whisper-thin leaders and small to medium-sized dry flies. They track true for exceptional accuracy and control, plus they are light as a feather with beautiful lines, featuring select species cork and your choice of our original, stealthy look in matte black with bright blue wraps or a more traditional Evergreen with subtle green wraps and silver trim. When the fish get finicky and the water gets low and clear you will have the answer… NRX LP!”

After a little street casting we convinced our local fly shop hero to let us take a demo out and after some on-stream action we are truly impressed with the NRX LP as it really gets the job done on our front range streams. What is really impressive about this rod is first its accuracy and then the rods ability to load at short, long and medium distances. This is the perfect rod for dry fly fishing or dry and dropper rigs.

We highly recommend that you take a look at the G Loomis NRX LP’s but before you do be sure to stop by for the latest news on our Colorado streams.

Tight Lines,
