Colorado Fly Fishing: Weekend Forecast

Check you local flows before heading out this weekend. This recent rain has bumped water levels and also stained a number of our rivers. If this is the case where you are headed, be sure to bring some bigger fly patterns like Pats Rubber Leg, San Juan Worms and Streamers. two_tone_san_juan_worm_purple_pinkAfter a big rain you can really do some damage in dirty water stripping big dark streamers in pocket water as well as nymphing with bigger flies. The Eagle has bumped with the current rain and is back up to a floatable level. It will not last long but should stay high enough for the next couple days. If floating is not an option, the Eagle is also at an excellent wading level and fishing continues to be solid top to bottom. If you are looking for something new, try hiking into some of the high alpine lakes and stick some cutties. Most of the snow in the high peaks is gone and reports from anglers who have been exploring the back country have been good. Fishing in those areas is fun and the fish in the high ponds can be real aggressive. Big PMX hoppers, Ants, and Parachute Adams tend to do the trick up high. The forecast for this weekend looks great so get out and enjoy.
