Rivers are on the drop and clarity is much better on many freestone and tailwater rivers around the state. Although water is clearing and on the drop, the flows are still very swift and dangerous. I am sure you are all anxious to fish some different water but be careful wherever you choose to go. If I had to throw a dart at a map that dart would land on the Upper Colorado River for a weekend hot spot. Find a buddy with a boat and tell him you’ll buy the beer and get up to Pumphouse. The river has dropped significantly over the last week and fishing has been consistent. You might find some aggressive surface takes in the Canyon but nymphing and throwing streamers is going to keep your rod bent. This time of year Pats Rubber Leg and black streamers are a must have in the fly box. Don’t forget that Sunday at State Bridge is Bloodies and Blue Grass. This is a fun mid day event with some surprisingly good music and they make a killer Jalapeno Bloody Mary. Of course you have to deal with the shirtless hula hoopers but thats the price you pay. So swing in for some hair of the dog and some picking before dunking your boat.
