The One that Got Away…

No one ever tells stories about the biggest fish of their life, the one that they have the great grip and grin pictures of nor do they tell of the fancy wall mounts and replicas that might grace the sportsman’s den…

Rather fish stories are usually more concerned about that 27” brown trout that got hung up in the log jam or a big bonefish that spat the hook after burning up the flats and the drag of your reel.   The one that got away always haunts us, yet it is what keeps us going as fisherman fueling our innate instincts of persistence.

As fisherman we like to joke, “You know there are a lot of fish in the river…”  And there most certainly are but 27” browns and world record bonefish don’t come on every cast, if they ever come.  So the big fish lost haunts us…

But as fisherman this may true for perhaps the purest and most satisfying part of fishing is that opportunity is always just one cast away…
