A good landing net is one of the fly fisherman’s most important and invaluable tools. Guiding in particular will take a heavy toll on equipment and landing nets are no exception. As Fly fisherman we are naturally drawn to aesthetics and wooden nets have been a stable for decades in the industry. But as beautiful as a handcrafted net can be they are certainly not always the most durable. With a little TLC wood landing nets can be made to be a little stronger but today’s modern technology is now offering fisherman superior technology and durability in the form of carbon fiber landing nets from NOMAD. Nomad is now a division of Fishpond which only speaks more to the quality and durability of their product.
The Nomad nets come in a variety of sizes and designs that will work for a wide array of fishing excursions. After just about a full season of use we have proven the carbon fiber nets to be virtually indestructible. We have had a few sword fights with the handles and even tried to break the nets by slamming them on the nearest Aspen tree, but to no avail as all of the original Nomad’s we have fished are still in one place. Another big positive to the carbon fiber design is that they are very light and make great leaning sticks throughout the day. These nets are also ideal for plucking fish out from beneath a drift boat or a raft. Nomad nets feature replaceable rubber ghost bags that are easy on the fish and your flies. Plus most of the long handled nets from Nomad feature measuring sticks so that there are no more lies after a day on the river.
